## General information
The URL https://schemas.bgr.de/boreholeml/codelists/v2/ is the home of the new catalogue of controlled vocabulary (codelists) in version 2.x for BoreholeML, published on 1st July 2024. 

This new catalogue of codelists was creatd by the Taskforce 1 of the AK BoreholeML, a working group of the German State Geological Surveys (SGD).
The catalogue contains codelist files in version 2.x and the corresponding XML schema definition and supplementary files. 

The subdirectory archive contains previous versions of codelist files.
Codelists in version 2.x use the XML schema definition [codelistItem_BMLCL.xsd](https://schemas.bgr.de/boreholeml/codelists/v1/codelistItem_BMLCL.xsd) in version 1.0 and are designed for BoreholeML 3.1.0.

## Changes in version 2x compared to version 1.x
Codelists in version 2.x contain more information in new additional attributes defined in the XML schema codelistItem_BMLCL.xsd version 1.0: 

   **geolKA** -> URL of the corresponding code entry in the corresponding codelist of the [Geologische Kartieranleitung der SGD](https://www.geokartieranleitung.de/).<br>
   A URL in geolKA is only given when a BoreholeML codelist is derived from a codelist propriatory of the Geologische Kartieranleitung. Additional information for the concerned BoreholeML code entry can be obtained via the given URL.
   
   **inspire** -> URL of a corresponding code entry in a corresponding codelist in the INSPIRE codelist registry (https://inspire.ec.europa.eu/codelist). <br>
   A URL in inspire is only given when a BoreholeML codelist with the corresponding code entry have a valid mapping to an INSPIRE codelist and code entry. Additional information on the relevant BoreholeML code entry can be obtained via the given URL.

   **modificationDate** -> Date of last modification of the code entry. <br>
   If geolKA is also given modificationDate refers to the modification date of the corresponding code entry of the Geologische Kartieranleitung.

## Functionality
Any applications related to BoreholeML 3.1.0 should refer code entries from codelists in version 2.x via https://schemas.bgr.de/boreholeml/codelists/v2/ and the codelist file name.
